Publisher Description:
"A Letter From Jerusalem" is an Easter play for children written by an experienced children's worker for use in the local church or Christian School setting. It has an approximate running time of 35 minutes, and has 21 speaking parts that are highly flexible, allowing children of all ages to participate. Parts can also be combined or added, allowing it to meet the need of any size ministry. This play follows Alexander and Rufus, the two sons of Simon of Cyrene, as they visit Jerusalem during Passover Week. After hearing of the miracles being performed by Jesus, the Nazarene, they desire to meet him but are unable to do so until they come face to face with him on his way to the cross. Appropriate humor is included through characters such as the Merchants, who are constantly trying to sell their merchandise at the temple, and the Roman Soldiers who find themselves with a front seat to the Resurrection. Other characters include Salome, Tabitha, and Joanna -- young girls who are followers of Jesus, several children who were blessed by Jesus -- easily played by a preschool class, Debra and Lucas -- cousins of Alexander and Rufus who serve as the narrators as they read the letter received from Alexander, and Peter -- who shows up the night Jesus is arrested and reenacts his denials of Christ. Purchasing this play gives you the rights to use the play as needed in your ministry or school setting. "A Letter From Jerusalem" will help your ministry share the true meaning of Easter with your children and congregation in a fresh, creative, and fun way.
