The testimony contained in this report chronicles the growing threat of Boko Haram in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa. Testimony was given by Ambassador Robert P. Jackson, the Acting Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Earl Gast, Assistant Administrator for Africa, United States Agency for International Development, Alice Friend, Principal Director for African Affairs for the DoD, and Lantana Adbullahi from Search for Common Ground. Boko Haram is a terrorist organization based in Nigeria founded in 2002 by Mohammed Yusuf. The goal of the group is to establish a "pure" Islamic State while putting an end to "Westernization."
