Publisher Description: At the Earth's Core was first written in serial form for magazine publication in 1914. In 1922 it was published in book form. It tells the story of a minor named David Innes who uses a vehicle he invents that accidentally mines all the way to the center of the earth. There he finds the world of Pellucidar. A land filled with human beings and prehistoric creatures that have lived inside the earth for centuries. He meets and falls in love with the beautiful Dian. However, she is not interested in David. He comes to her aid and defends her against Hooja the Sly One. Due to his not understanding of local customs, Dian thinks David only wants her as a slave. David has to work hard to clear things up if he wants a future with Dian. Part adventure and part romance. Mr. Burroughs proved once again what a great writer he was and that he was ahead of his time. |
