Publisher Description:
Friedrich Schulz first published his version of Rapunzel in German in his 1790 series of books: "Kleine Romane." This version of the tale shows the fairy as a benevolent mother figure whose only desire is to protect Rapunzel. The tale is very different than either of the Grimm versions from1812 or 1857 and contains by far the most explicit sexual references of any of the versions. The Brothers Grimm first published their version of Rapunzel in the 1812 Kinder- und Hausm rchen Gesammelt duch die Br der Grimm as No. 12., Rapunzel. In Johannes Bolte and Georg Pol vka Anmerkungen zu den Kinder- und Hausm rchen der Br der Grimm, Leipzig 1913, the source of the story is listed as being "told by Jacob Grimm." In the all to often ignored 1812 Anhang entry to #12, the Grimms list Friedrich Schulz as the source and greatly praise his version of the tale. Includes both the original 1790 Schulz text, the 1812 and the 1857 Grimm texts plus, notes, comments and useful information. Also includes an "easy to read" version of the 1790 Schulz text as well as a version showing the modifications that were made the to create the "easy to read" 1790 version. Includes a total of 5 variations of Rapunzel.
