Publisher Description: This anthology of poems is centred around the Great War. It attempts to explore a little more widely the experiences of the soldiers and others affected by their Great War. Reading and listening to the stories of others has provided the inspiration for these poems. 'Gone Back To Her Mother' is based on a true story of a (now dead) relative who remembers hearing a neighbour say this when he was 5 years old and was helping his mother to carry their belongings from one house to another. 'On The Battlefield' came about as a result of seeing an interview in the BBC production 'The Great War', where a veteran was describing his experiences, so the first verse belongs to him. The book's title comes from the poem dedicated to the 'Unknown Soldier' who is buried in Westminster Abbey. |
