Publisher Description:
The author Dr. Joseph E. Brierly earned a Ph.D. in mathematics from the Wayne State University in 1975. As part of his graduate level mathematics program he took many advanced courses in the theory of probability and statistics. In his professional career as a mathematician working for the US Army he mastered computer systems design. Interest in applying mathematics to games of chance became a hobby that led naturally to developing computer algorithms for optimizing ways to make money at the harness race tracks. He succeeded in making profits every year for over 20 years at a number of harness race tracks using the simulation and expert systems that he designed. This book passes on to the harness race bettor the many secrets that he found leading to making winning bets. Most everything imaginable impacting the outcome of a harness race is found somewhere in this book. Every important factor in the likely outcome of a harness horse race is statistically addressed. For example, questions like what are the best and worst post-positions? What variables impact success at picking winners? What is the effect of a horse winning the last race? Many such situations were investigated in this statistical analysis of harness racing at one mile tracks. At the heart of winning at the track is to have understanding that competing bettors do not have. Any strategy could be profitable provided it is based on knowing what the competition does not know and use. Whether betting perfectas, trifectas, superfectas, daily doubles or just plain straight bets, one can succeed only by having an edge on the other bettors. This book gives many ways of gaining that edge. No other book accomplishes that objective other than the author's first book on the subject that dealt mainly with the 5/8th mile harness race track. This one dedicates itself to the one mile harness race track. There is a vast difference in how the three one mile tracks statistically analyzed behave. This book highlights their differences that impact betting strategy. The reader will easily recognize the three well-known one mile harness racetracks covered in the book. It is possible to win money at any of the three tracks, if you know their character. Knowing when to bet and when to refrain from betting is one of the main things the bettor will learn from this book. The author sees no downside to controlled gambling as long as one does not gamble more than what can be afforded to lose. On the upside gambling is a great way to add zest to life. It is guaranteed to give healthy adrenalin highs, if done in a sane way. The author knows many horse race gamblers that have spent a lifetime with this hobby. Handicapping keeps the brain actively healthy. Exercising the brain is as important as exercising the body. And there is no better way to spend an evening with friends than at a harness racetrack. The author has made many friends over the years that he spent visiting harness racetracks.
