| Publisher Description: Power Africa is a Presidential initiative designed to double access to electrical power in sub-Saharan Africa in the next 6 years by producing at least 10,000 megawatts of more efficient, cost effective, and hopefully sustainable electricity generation capacity on the continent. By 2020, this initiative aims to increase electricity access for 20 million new households and commercial entities with a robust mix of on-grid, minigrid, and off-grid solutions; enhance energy resource management capabilities of partner countries; and increase regional cross-border trade. Power Africa can catalyze vast opportunities for the private sector and mobilize private resources to help solve the endemic problem of energy poverty across Africa. The initiative has garnered the support of several large investors, as well as multinational institutions such as the African Development Bank and World Bank, which serve as critical partners for Power Africa. |
