Publisher Description:

Rivers of Struggle and Resistance: A Social Political History of the Underrepresented in the United States is an exploration of United States political history from a critical view of the issues, movements, historic moments, and key individuals and groups who have articulated and participated in movements for social justice and equality in the United States.

This anthology provides a template for understanding the impact and origins of race, class, and gender oppression in the United States. It will highlight the black political social experience as an enduring link to the experiences and struggles of Native Americans, Mexicans, Asian Pacific Islanders, women, and gays and lesbians in America.

Additionally, Rivers of Struggle and Resistance will be useful in understanding the dynamics of progressive and revolutionary struggles, as well as the reaction and counterrevolution of wealth, privilege, and whiteness. Finally, this anthology will allow professors to present original material in book form with the versatility of a reader, but will also include analytical clarity and historic importance.
