Publisher Description:
No orcs, no ogres, just thieves trying to survive the night. In Cespen, The Endless City, an epic fantasy tale, the Baron Thieves Guild rules every thief in the Seven Square sub-district with an iron fist. In this shadowy world of the night, respect is everything: the difference between freedom and slavery, between wealth and poverty, and between life and death. My main character James and his crew of criminals plan to get that respect any way they can. The story begins with the main character James Makerin and his boys agreeing to fight a war for their overlord, a very powerful and highly respected Baron thief by the name of Black Eye. Another powerful Baron by the name of Kaylen is the target. Black Eye promises respect, wealth, power and glory; he promises lies. Daggers stab, crossbow bolts fly; blood flows over the cobblestone as open warfare explodes between James and Kaylen's forces. Casualties are felt on both sides as brothers' fall and friend's morn. No one feels the loss more than James as his best friend is one of those who have fallen. Power and respect mean nothing to James now-only vengeance. Wining a major battle against Kaylen, James can taste victory. All that is required is the final blow. Thinking his future in the Guild secure, James is stunned to discover that his overlord is afraid he has become too powerful for his own good, and plans to murder him once the war is won. Through a combination of deception and force, James devises a plan to assassinate both Kaylen and Black Eye at the same time. With loyalty, daring, and a little bit of luck James stands triumphant over his enemies, elevating him from a common thief to a powerful figure within the Baron Thieves Guild. Little does James know, that with this victory he has involved himself in an inter-guild conflict that he couldn't possibly survive. Only a promise he made to a dying friend to leave the dangerous life of a thief might get him out alive. Will James keep his promise? Or will he fight?
