Publisher Description:
KING CHARLES II King Charles was born on 29 May 1630, the eldest surviving son of Charles I. He was 12 when the Civil War began and two years later at the age of 14, he was appointed the nominal commander-in-chief in western England. With the parliamentary victory he was forced into exile on the continent and was now living in the Netherlands when in 1649 he learnt of his father, Charles I execution. On his return in 1650 he cleverly made a deal with the Scots and was proclaimed King of Scotland. He soon raised a Scottish army and invaded England in 1651, but was defeated by Oliver Cromwell's Roundhead army at the Battle of Worcester in 1651. Charles managed to escape into exile, and it was not until 1660 that he was finally invited back to England to reclaim his throne. This is another very funny poke at English history and the third book in the series called, "The Funny Side of " by author and illustrator John L D Barnett.
