Publisher Description:
Charlie and Rachael Roberts met on the sands of Long Beach, California as they were ageing into their 50's. This was during the depths of the great depression of the 1930's and jobs were almost impossible to get. To make things worse, they both had farm and cattle ranching backgrounds and now found themselves in the shadows of the big city of Los Angeles. They were both wishing they could connect with the land again, so they agreed to get married two weeks after they met. Then, in 1933, they found an opportunity to file for a 160-acre homestead on the slopes of Mt. Charleston, NV - just over the crest of the Lovell Canyon road. Here they began life again by way of starting a working cattle and dude ranch where they lived and worked for 14-years - half way between Las Vegas and Pahrump, and just a short distance from an illegal whiskey still. The Roberts Ranch is now known as The Torino Ranch that is run by the Torino Foundation for the benefit of Children with Disabilities such as cancer, autism, and heart disease.
