Publisher Description: This book was the product of a long voyage I took in an old racing sailboat named Victory. It was a cruise that took me all the way around Florida, from Fernandina Beach, at the Georgia state line, to Key West. Then I sailed north across the Gulf of Mexico, to Panama City. From there I sailed back to Key West, and up the east coast to where I began. The book is a collection of thoughts, stories, and observations, on a variety of subjects. The nature of voyaging, Buddhist philosophy, the nature of self, infinity, individual freedom, and our place in the cosmos are all discussed. The stories range from my experiences as a young Marine in Vietnam, to the years I spent as a poverty stricken artist. I encountered many difficulties along the way. Some of these difficulties were with the elements, and some were the product of an increasingly repressive set of restrictions on personal freedom in the name of national security. |
