Publisher Description:
Urban Kryptonite discusses the adverse health conditions of african diasporans in the Americas. These people are often identified by many of their sub cultures with names such as melanoid, indigenous, pan africans, hebrew israelites, afro-latinos, Nation of Islam, baptists, rastafarians, continental africans, Caribbeans and more. Among other topics, this book's primary focus is on the dietary lifestyle pitfalls that most Black Americans have subjected themselves to. Much of the issue has been socially constructed by the so called dominant society also known as white supremacists. While this statement is true it does not negate the fact that melanoid people have been very derelict in establishing sound nutritional habits. Most African diasporans do well with a nutritional diet that is plant based. The problem is that they were raised on high sugar, high meat and high starch diets. As a carbon based people with high amounts of melanin, the nutrients from plants have an immediate and long lasting impact on the bloodstream. We have become obsessed with the standard American diet which is claiming the lives of black people daily. The same issue that plagues people of color with their diet is also a problem when it comes to the use of illicit and prescription drugs. The melanin in a black person's body binds to these substances which has a stronger impact on the individual therefore harming the body much more viciously than it would a person who does not have a reasonable amount of melanin. Black Americans must also understand that they are punished at a higher rate for illicit drug offenses than other races. In both cases it is not in their best interest to engage in the use or distribution of narcotics. This book is the precursor to the film Urban Kryptonite: African Roots, Foreign Diseases. The film features health scholars such as herbalist Doctah B Sirius, Aris Latham and Dr. Llaila Afrika, author of Afrikan Holistic Health and Melanin: What Makes Black People Black. Urban Kryptonite (the book) also challenges Black Americans to return to spirituality as a means of deliverance and mental clarity in today's society. They have become so religious that the focus has been shifted from becoming like God to simply just talking about God. Urban Kryptonite promotes healthy living from all angles starting with nutrition be it physical or mental. Negative thoughts, listening to unsavory music, excessive meat eating. dairy consumption, fried foods and heavy starch diets are the true reason for the current health crisis in the black community. Whether it's veganism, vegetariansm or fruitarianism, there must be some form of dietary intervention coupled with personal empowerment in order for African diasporans to improve their current condition. With the current state of social affairs in the western hemisphere, people of color will have to depend solely on themselves to correct their dire situation. This book gives a fair and clear assessment of things that are taking place in the black community and what can be done to rectify these issues. The idea is self-empowerment. After this book is read it should be followed by the film, Urban Kryptonite: African Roots, Foreign Diseases. There you will receive four information packed hours on holistic wellness and African based diets that should be followed in order to heal from disease and elongate the lives of residents of the Urban community.
