Publisher Description:
Adak Naval Station, Adak, Alaska is located approximately 1,200 miles southwest of Anchorage and 700 miles southeast of Siberia, near the center of the Aleutian island chain. The Station is strategically important for patrol and surveillance of Arctic waters. On Adak, all electric power generation and space heating is done with JP-5 jet fuel, amounting to nearly 9 million gallons per year. This dependence on oil, coupled with the remoteness of the island, makes any form of indigenous power source attractive if it is exploitable commercially. The purpose of this report is to present the data, results, and interpretations of numerous geoscientific investigations concerning indigenous geothermal potential at the Naval Station (NAVSTA), Adak.
