This volume contains the studies and lectures that were discussed at an international symposium on ""The Gospel and the Gospels"" in Tubingen, Germany, in September 1982. The contributions deal sequentially with the state and methods of gospel research, Jesus' gospel of the kingdom of God, the development and nature of the gospel tradition, the history of the term ""gospel,"" the Pauline gospel, the genre and profile of the four biblical gospels, the relationship of the canonical gospels to Greek biography, the tradition of Agrapha (= words of the earthly Jesus not recorded in the four Biblical Gospels), and Justin's view of the ""Memoirs of the Apostles.""
