John Robert Lowerson, from Seaham in County Durham, did exist, and in the mid 1980's a young girl believes she saw his ghost ... more than once. I was asked to write a book about John, but very little information was available apart from a couple of family documents and the war records saying he died at the Battle Of The Somme on Saturday 1st of July 1916. But I was intrigued by the story and I wrote this novel. Not all the characters in this book are fictional, and some of the events actually happened. I want to take the reader back to the horrors of the war that was to "end all wars." In retrospect, it didn't "end" anything ... there is a war somewhere this very day. But perhaps it should have. This is an account of one man's struggle to survive. |
