Publisher Description: Morgan MacArthur is a twelve year old oboist in her school orchestra. Before returning to her home in England, Morgan's grandmother presents the child with an heirloom, an oboe, that has been in their family for generations. Her grandmother tells Morgan the legend of the oboe and their ancestor, Finn Fingall, as well as the Faeries who were said to have created the instrument for Fingall. As Morgan prepares for a series of performance tests to determine who will be first chair in her school orchestra, she starts to have dreams about Faeryland and its King Oberon and Queen Gloriana. In this dreamland Morgan receives musical instruction from the five sacred Faery trees, who teach her to compose her own music. In the end, Morgan must take part in the annual state musical competition, as Morgan competes with her rival, Lilith, and the state's best musicians. |
