Maggie finally agreed to go on an afternoon date with this man she barely knew other than the fact that he was a local plumber; the conditions were that they would go on her Jeep, and to get a second date, he had this one chance to impress her in a way none of her other dates had. He chose a trip to the canyon. "What's that blinking on the plane's wings?" She got her answer in the double dirt geysers from evenly spaced bullets that stitched the ground toward them. Ben dropped his pistol and hauled Maggie off her feet, swinging her away from the shots. He shoved the little woman down on her stomach, throwing his torso across her back as the bullets kicked up dirt on either side of them all the way to where they had parked.... The Piper buzzed past them like a giant hornet. Smoking shell casings rained down in a long line in its wake. Maggie found enough breath to wheeze as Ben Carter pulled her to her feet.
