Publisher Description:
This book contains over 20,000 Chinese verbs with over 40,000 English translations. The words are sorted on the Pinyin, showing the Chinese Radical and the English translation for the word. Other volumes in this series contain the same data, but are sorted on the Chinese Radical, and the English verb. Chinese comprises seven main dialects: -Mandarin -Cantonese -Hakka -Wu -Min -Xiang -Gan The variety of Mandarin based on the speech in the capital Beijing is the official national language of mainland China. The common language in Hong Kong and overseas Chinese communities is Cantonese. The major languages spoken in Taiwan are Mandarin, Taiwanese (a variety of Min), and Hakka. Six of the seven main dialects are in the southeast of Chinese, south of the Yangtze river. Mandarin is spoken in most of northern China and part of western China. The Chinese dialects are not mutually intelligible but are termed dialects from sociological and political points of view. Regardless of dialect, 91% of the Chinese people are able to read and write in Mandarin. Purchasers of this volume may request a set of Pinyin MP3 files (over 1600 in all) to use for hearing the pronunciation of the Chinese words. Our Pinyin Sound files are designed to be used on any computer, tablet, or mobile device.
