Annotation: The story of the homes, historic buildings, and sites of the Mississippi Delta follows the history of man's ongoing struggle with what the Algonquin Indians called the "Great Waters." This book is exceptional in its presentation of the manner in which builders adapted to the whimsy of a river and the tides of technological, social, and political change. They conformed to or willfully fought against the nature of this majestic plain, while preserving the beauty and grandeur for which the South is known.
