Publisher Description:
This work is the debut novel of F. Scott Fitzgerald. Published in 1920, the book examines the days and morality of post-World War I youth. Its protagonist, Amory Blaine, is a striking Princeton University student who dabbles in literature and has the book's theme of love warped by greed and status-seeking. The work is written in three parts. "Book One: The Romantic Egotist" outlines Blaine's time at Princeton and the rejection by his love Isabelle Borge leaving him devastated. The "Interlude" outlines Amory's time overseas serving in the army during World War I. "Book Two: The Education of a Personage" finds Blaine in love with a New York Debutante, Rosalind Connage, however this relationship ends with rejection due to his dismal financial standing. The book ends with Amory's iconic lament "I know myself, but that is all-"
