Contributor Bio(s): Mayer, Brantz: - Brantz Mayer (1809-1879) was an American businessman and author who chanced upon Canot through a mutual acquaintance. He translated the book into English and first published it in 1854.Canot, Theodore: - Theodore Canot (real name Théophile Conneau) was born in Piedmont, Italy, in 1804. He spent his first 50 years of life as an outlaw slave trader, and afterwards as France's official agent of colonization in the southwest Pacific Ocean colonial territory of New Caledonia. He died in Paris December 22, 1860. |
