Publisher Description:
This book is meant to give beginner, improvising guitarists a head start for knowing where to play on the guitar to get consistent and beautiful sounds. The main purpose of this book is to lay out the shapes most commonly used on the guitar for improvisation in a manner that is easy to understand and avoids having to learn all of the note names on the guitar neck. The scales and chords in this book are used to improvise in all styles of music including progressive rock, metal, rock n' roll, blues, country, jazz, blue grass and their various sub-genres. A short, abbreviated explanation of the music theory involved with these scale patterns and chords is included. The purpose of this book is not to teach music theory or note names. The main goals are to get guitarists familiar with the guitar neck in order to experiment with the sounds associated with each scale and chord, orient themselves on the guitar neck in a manner that gives them the confidence to take improvisational risks, and allow them the opportunity to attain the knowledge that will allow them to adapt their improvisations to any piece of music in any style of music.
