Publisher Description:
Seventy-seven portraits of artistic nature in colour and black and white to enjoy the art of portraiture in photography. You will find portraits of humans, animals and mannequins. Some are cheerful and depict optimism and happiness, whereas others are sad depicting the suffering of animals. Both types alternate in the presentation. The photographs were taken at different locations in Europe (Ireland, Poland, Belgium). Many of the portraits are spontaneous pictures taken on the street or at venues from previously unknown citizens that I consider worthy of capturing in images. In this way, I try to convey the personality of the individual and the passions that animate his or her life. In this way, by means of surprise, the subject of the picture does not have time to reflect on an artificial and elaborated presentation before the camera and the personality transpires through the image better. There are many pictures of cats. Perhaps I have tried to emulate Walter Chandoha, the great photographer of cats. I find cats generally easy to photograph because of their mostly quiet nature. Also, when photographing the animals in their cages, I realized their intense suffering. After looking at these pictures, my first impression has been reinforced. Perhaps the contemplation of this animal suffering will contribute to change attitudes towards animals. You will find some pictures of mannequins used at shop windows. Some are so realistic, that they seem to be somewhat animated. Yes, they are animated in the eyes of the observer when being looked at. The impression of them being alive stems from our psychology when looking at an object that reminds us of life.I hope that you will enjoy these photographs as much as I have when taking them.
