Kirie is the "magic" that enriches my life
　I began to teach myself the art of kirie while employed as an engineer at one of Japan's giant construction companies and have continued into my retirement years. For nearly forty years I have journeyed to countries around the world and throughout the islands of Japan, returning home to create kirie portraying attractive places and scenes I encountered during my travels. I have completed more than 160 kirie works. Kirie has been the center of my life and has magically enriched my whole life. And even now, whenever I gaze at one of my works, I vividly recall the excitement I felt when I encountered the scene just as if it were yesterday.
　Among the many varied delights that I owe to kirie, as I frequently mention in this book, my greatest joy has been creating this collection by selecting my favorite works from among all those I have completed. I am more excited than ever to release this book as the first collection of my works to be shared with the world.
　I have included 93 works in this book. Their subjects include 18 from Southern and Eastern Europe, 26 from Western and Northern Europe, 10 from North America, 9 from Oceania and Asia, and 30 from Japan. I have added a brief comment on each work enabling my readers to savor the beauty and atmosphere of various countries and regions of the world at the same time as they experience the charm of kirie.

　私は、日本の大手建設会社のエンジニアとして働きながら、独学で「きりえ」を始め、退職してからも継続してきました。既に40年近く続けることになり、海外の様々な国や日本の地域を訪れ、そこで出会った魅力的な対象を作品に残してきました。これまでに制作した「きりえ作品」は160点余りになります。今では、きりえは私の人生の核となり、生活の全てを幸せにする魔法になっています。また、各作品をみると今でもその時の感動を昨日のことのように生き生きと思い出します。
　「きりえ」にともなう至福はこの本で度々お話ししますように多々ありますが、これまでの作品から気に入ったものを選び、作品集を作ることは最も大きな至福の一つです。加えて、この本は世界に発信する最初の作品集でもあり、より一層興奮しています。
