Publisher Description: The goal of the Pinnacle Quest series (Pinnacle Questions, Pinnacle Reasoning, Ultrareasoning, The Structure of Truth) is to provide the tools to enable serious scholars to extend the scientific revolution into the subjective sphere. The first two volumes were written more or less as notes from the field, journals in the effort to develop the faceted model-oriented reasoning methodology. The last two volumes are considerably more formal, and present a more complete, more mature introduction to a very difficult discipline. UPDATE: The primary goal of Pinnacle Reasoning is to show the model-oriented reasoning process in action so that the reader can see what it looks like when effectively addressing anomalies in the model stimulates new insights that enhance the model. The point is that flashes of insight are only rare because we have not previously understood the mechanism that triggers them. Now, we have the knowledge necessary to make insights so predictable that we can schedule them (give or take a week), but this also allows us to confirm our experience that most insights, like most ideas, are worthless in that they do not accurately map to facts in physical reality. Thus, while we can now generate many more insights while working on problems, we will also find that we discard more insights, too, until we come upon the few that are actually worthwhile. |
