Publisher Description: A first ever study of the continuation of Hindu Traditions in the U.S. based on interviews of over one hundred first and second generation immigrants. The interviews delve into respondents' religious/spiritual beliefs, practices and approaches they took for preserving the tradition. Unlike other religions of the world, Hindu religion does not have a single prescriptive book or a path. As a result the Hindu tradition is intensely personal and can be based on the person's geographical origin in India. It is difficult to continue these practices after immigrating to a new country. Author recommends a path for Hindu immigrants to continue their religious and philosophical tradition even when raising their children and grandchildren in another country. |
