Contributor Bio(s): Starnes, Robert: - Robert Starnes was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, which it is now part of a broader category called ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), at the age of 43. Once he received this news, things started to click with him. After being able to identify and manage the parts of ASD he had, he was able to hone in on his creative writing. At a young age he did not like to read, because he had difficulty with the words on the pages in front of him. He knew the words and understood them, but his brain would comprehend them faster than his voice would speak them. This would cause him to either leave out words, or cause him to read very slowly so he could have his eyes go back over the words again, two to three times, before his voice caught up with his brain. This embarrassment would stop him from reading for many years. After being an adult for many years, learning to face his fears, he began to read John Grisham books. He loves the law and movies, so it was perfect for him to read the "The Last Juror" before watching the movie. After reading such a great novel then watching the movie, he quickly learned he enjoyed comparing the differences between the novels and the movies. That was all it took for him to begin to enjoy reading for the first time. For many years he would only read novels that were going to become movies, because that was what he enjoyed about reading. After many years, once he read another novel that became a movie, but they never completed the movie series. The novel was so good that he completed the book series, which in turn gave him a new enjoyment for reading without the novels becoming movies. With this in Robert's mind, he has written his series for anyone that may be going through the same things he went through as a child, or adult, with reading, and is trying to find a way for them to connect with the world of reading. He believes that you can read and write a perfectly great action packed novel that does not have to be 800 pages thick to be accomplished. He believes giving someone the opportunity and a way to enter the world of reading, then that's the accomplishment. No one should be afraid to read or write in their own style for others to be able to want to read. His mind does not work the same as a traditional writer's does and retains things much more than another person's may, so you will not find very much repeating, or recapping, in his series. You will find action, adventure, and history from the very first chapter to the very end. To Robert, everyone is different and unique, and should be celebrated every day for being just who they are. He finds that when life may get you down, you can always get away in your own imagination with the help of a good book.Service LLC, Carpenter Editing: - Patricia Carpenter has a Masters' Degree in Reading/Language Arts from Florida State University.
