Contributor Bio(s): Lee, Sylvia Houston: - Sylvia Houston Lee was born in 1941 in Houston, Texas, into a family with the surname of Houston but who were not related to Texas' hero Sam Houston. After obtaining a "fine arts" bachelor's degree she took graduate classes in anthropology, then graduated with a BSN and worked as an RN for the Indian Health Service. She gained skills for searching out researching archives and interviewing people from the anthropology classes and from inter-personal interactions as a nurse. After retiring, Sylvia began volunteering at the Boyce Thompson Arboretum and soon agreed to research and write the bistory of the arboretum. |
