When Kiidus meets the very much alive Selexah, his choice to keep seeing her makes him an even bigger target for The Shadows, especially after he starts telling Selexah the universe's secrets. Once they're together, Kiidus knows he'll do whatever he has to, to keep her safe, including ruining, or ending, the lives of others.
