Of course there were millions of stories and these short stories do not represents the lives of all women and children in the past, but they do represent the majority of the women and children of the past. The stories are short, but they each convey a message. This message being about the United States and the time in history when the stories took place as well as the social and economic conditions at that time. It is amazing how different things were in the past, and at the same time, amazing how similar they are now. The history of the U.S. primarily consisted of the wealthy and the poor and the vast majority of Americans for most of this time period were poor. |
