Publisher Description: It's 1940 and across the country women are leaving their homes, shops and offices to take up a new role in the Women's Land Army. These Land Girls quickly learnt new farming skills with stock and crops. Back to the Land takes a warm-hearted look at the lives and loves of a group of Land Girls making the best of their new situation in a hostel not very far from Berwick upon Tweed. They had come from every class and every county and sometimes jealousy and intrigue broke out. But they were united by a shared cause in safeguarding the nation's food production. This play has been specially written for the Maltings Community Theatre and is based on the recollections of the women themselves. It is liberally punctuated with the song and dance of World War II and is ideal for a drama societies looking for a play with a large cast. |
