Annotation: Author Elizabeth McLachlan, inspired by her father's memoirs of his life as a rural teacher during the Great Depression, brings us this compilation of the stories of individual teachers. The stories are based on the author's interviews and correspondence with several teachers who taught in rural schools during the Great Depression. Comic at times, tragic at others, these stories tell of a past that is quickly receding from view.
