Publisher Description: Malheiros, a landlord in Mato Grosso, is deeply in debt, and the only way out of this debt is if he clears out the Caduveo Indians from their land by massacring them, and appropriates their hunting grounds. To achieve this he organises a large jaguar hunting competition, and in secret he recruits mercenaries against the Caduveo. However, the Indians learn about his plans, and start their preparations. Karai Puk , the tall hunter, the friend of the Indians is also active in the area. The clash between the wrong and right is inevitable. This book, with a great insight to the situation in the contemporary border area between Brazil, Paraguay and Bolivia, was written by the Czech botanist, traveller, and ethnographer, Alberto Vojtěch Frič (1882-1944). Frič masterfully combined archetypal characters, historic events, historical tendencies, and his own views into an exciting adventure story, and a story on fighting for justice, which is known as The Tall Hunter. |
