Publisher Description:
Tommy McNaul, an FBI Agent on the Art Crime Team, has a firm respect for the law, a beautiful wife, and a passion for fine art. He loses them all on a snowy Boston night when a sting operation to recover a stolen Vermeer is betrayed by a phone call. When the shooting stops, the dead man on the floor proves to be a congressman's son. Pursued by the Boston mob, Tom leaves the FBI, returns to his native New Mexico, and joins his brother Willie's detective agency in Santa Fe. There he finds himself pursuing cases of forgery, theft, and a murder at a Canyon Road opening, all seemingly tied to a suspicious art gallery and a rural family of hired thugs. Willie and Tom confront the family, and bullets fly. Tom discovers that the gallery owner is running a major forgery operation--and also learns it was a call from his wife that blew the sting operation in Boston. She trades the name of the Texan holding the Vermeer for her freedom. Tom recovers the painting, but it's a forgery. Justice is more to be believed in than the law, he ends up convinced. But beyond that, he now wonders, just how much blood is art really worth?
