Publisher Description:
This dictionary combines 2 of the top 100 languages of the world, English and Spanish with Albanian. It contains approximately 1300 terms along with sections on English, Albanian and Spanish pronunciation and grammer. Although the total number of Albanian speakers is small compared to English and Spanish, it is the second most spoken language in Greece (Arvanitika and Cham), Macedonia and the third most spoken language in Italy. With Spanish at number 2 and English at number 3, over 900 million people speak one of these 3 languages. There are large numbers of Albanian speakers in the United States, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Canada. Some of the first ethnic Albanians to arrive in the United States were Arb resh . Arb reshe have a strong sense of identity, and are unique in that they speak an archaic dialect of Tosk Albanian called Arb resh . In North America (United States and Canada) there are approximately 250,000 Albanian speakers. It is spoken in the eastern area of the United States in cities like New York City, New Jersey, Boston, Philadelphia, Ohio and Detroit. Greater New Orleans has a large Arb resh community. Spanish is the official or national language in Spain, Equatorial Guinea, and 19 countries in the Americas. Speakers in the Americas total some 418 million. In the European Union, Spanish is the mother tongue of 8% of the population, with an additional 7% speaking it as a second language. It is usually considered the world's second-most spoken native language, after Mandarin Chinese.
