The device must be turned off, the only one who can do it is a young boy who has found an artifact in the ruins that tells his mind what to do. The artifact was a scepter meant to be held in the hand of the new high priest of the Temple. But he was killed when the Temple was destroyed before he learned the power of the Scepter. It has lain dormant for all this time until found by a new owner, the human boy who will unknowingly become the new High Priest of Tesarus. The one who must use the power of the Scepter to find and stop those who destroyed the temple before they return to attack humankind. As the boy grows to manhood, he bonds with the intelligent Scepter, graduates from a military academy, only to be met with the first encounter of the destroyers, the Gortiki. They have returned to attack a human exploratory mission. He, his female companion, and the Scepter must go and face them. This becomes the first of many such encounters.
