Publisher Description: English Summary: Aristotle's Poetics deals with the composition of a kind of history, history being here considered as a narrative. But for what reason did Aristotle write such a work? And how does that work fit with the rest of the corpus? The present study is an answer to both questions, an answer after which the Poetics stays no longer the same: catharsis disappears from the definition of tragedy; the second book is probably not lost. The author also answers a third question: why should one be interested in Poetics? He offers a renewed reading where he compares Aristotle with modern and contemporary thinkers, but where he also takes sides. The term Diagoge- or "intellectual pastime" - captures the answer to those three questions. |
