| Publisher Description: English summary: For the first time, Gunther Zuntz gives a reconstruction and a description of the history of a type of text which up to now had only been dealt with selectively: the Greek philosophical hymn. Beginning with the sparse references to early evidence (Empedocles), he interprets the hymnos to Zeus by Cleanthes, reconstructs philosophical hymns from the oracles of Claros, the Chaldean oracles and the so-called Tubingen theosophy. German description: Gunther Zuntz unternimmt erstmals eine Rekonstruktion und Beschreibung der Geschichte einer bislang nur punktuell greifbaren Textsorte: des griechischen philosophischen Hymnos. Ausgehend von sparlichen Hinweisen auf fruhe Spuren (Empedokles), interpretiert er den Zeus-Hymnos des Kleanthes, rekonstruiert philosophische Hymnen aus Orakeln von Klaros, den chaldaischen Orakeln und der sogenannten Tubinger Theosophie, um schliesslich die uberlieferten Werke des Proklos und des Synesios als Reprasentanten in ebendiese Tradition einzuordnen. Die vorliegende Studie bietet somit die erste zusammenhangende Darstellung des griechischen philosophischen Hymnos uberhaupt. |
