Bachelor Thesis from the year 2019 in the subject Psychology - General, grade: 1.5, University of Northern Philippines, course: BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN PSYCHOLOGY, language: English, abstract: This study determined the extent of challenges faced by fisherfolks in Vigan City which include socio-economic, personal, and environmental variations. Further, it aimed to determine the significant relationship between challenges faced by fisherfolks and their profile. The profile of the respondent was also described which include sex, age, civil status, number of children, monthly income, educational attainment, type of residence, affiliated organization, training attended, and other source of income. Fisherfolks who were residing in Vigan City, particularly in Mindoro and San Pedro were taken as the respondents of this study. The descriptive-correlational method of research with questionnaire as the main tool for gathering data was used in this study. The questionnaire was constructed by the researchers based from their readings and was content validated by knowledgeable persons along the field. Purposive sampling was used to identify the 70 respondents. Frequency, percentage, mean and simple correlation analysis were used to treat the data gathered. All of the respondents are male, attained training in local, affiliated in Fishermen's organization, and resided in their own house. Majority of the respondents are 30-39 years old, and most of them are married. Many of the respondents are High School level, earn up to Php 4000- Php 6999 as monthly income. As their other source of income, most of the respondents are involved in farming. Overall, challenges in terms socio-economic, personal, and environmental variations are actually bringing difficulties among the fisherfolks in their fishing activities. There is no significant relationship between the extent of challenges faced by fisherfolks and their profile.
