Mission organisations sponsored by church institutions are still active, sometimes with a changed agenda, while mission organisations of free churches maintain a high importance. On the other hand in orthodox churches, where the active mission outside the 'canonical territory' used to contribute to the spread of Christianity, it is hardly practiced anymore.
