Publisher Description: Feliks Nowowiejski, an early twentieth century Polish composer and con-ductor, is primarily recognized as the author of large musical genres such as operas, ballets, oratorios, masses, and pieces (songs) of utilitarian value. However, his artistic output also includes numerous piano pieces that up to date have not received the well-deserved attention. In fact, the existence of these works is known only to a relatively small audience. This book intends to change that by providing the first comprehensive overview of Nowowiejski's piano solo works. This volume was compiled based on a unique access to hand-written manuscripts which were kept by the composer's family and which were deposited in two major libraries in Poland. It includes biographical and historical information on the composer, examines important characteristics of Nowowiejski's style, and introduces twenty-eight of his solo piano pieces. As the author of this book, I strongly believe that Nowowiejski's piano works were unfairly neglected and they truly deserve to be acknowledged and popularized. With this book, I hope to introduce this talented artist to a broader audience. |
