Publisher Description:
Globalization has provided new avenues for employment of rural poor women in Bangladesh. Though the involvement of women in income earning activities is increasing and they are enjoying comparatively better status in the family and society at large, their experiences as worker in the global factories are not always cheerful. Wage discrimination and harassment at workplace are very often reported. This study focuses on the hierarchical relationships between the sexes that resulted into the violation of the rights of women workers. More specifically this study seeks to explore what gender biased beliefs are constructed and practiced in global production industries and how these are used to maintain the exploitative relationships in the factory. Therefore, this study is a new kind of research in the field of gender and industrial relations which will provide new insights for academicians, researchers, labor experts, and policy makers from a wide range of disciplines in social sciences, like, sociology, political science, economics, gender studies, Social work, philosophy, development studies, labor studies and so on.
