Seminar paper from the year 2014 in the subject Psychology - General, grade: 1,4, Maastricht University, language: English, abstract: Burnout rates are especially high in surgeons, as they are often confronted with high amount of workload and stress. In this paper reasons for burnout in surgeons are discussed, as well as different interventions to prevent and intervene burnout. More specifically the different types of interventions are discussed; individual-directed, organization directed and a combination of both. The review of many papers shows that a combination of both individual- and organization directed is the best strategy to prevent and intervene burnout.
