Contributor Bio(s): Senzaki, Travis: - Travis Senzaki is a leading independent expert on the MEXT scholarship with over 7 years of experience processing MEXT scholarship applications and guiding thousands of applicants through the process. As a former international student in Japan, Travis experienced first-hand the life-changing impact of studying abroad here. He has since made it his mission to help as many students as possible experience the benefits of international education. Travis was born in America and, until leaving for a year in Japan, had spent his entire life in a relatively homogeneous small town on the east coast. He grew up as an avid reader, which sparked his desire for adventure, so when the opportunity came to study abroad, he jumped at it, ending up in Japan in high school for a year. Although he knew next to nothing about Japan or its language when he arrived, the year changed his life. By the time he returned home, he had developed a passion for the culture, community, and history he had experienced living in a rural community in Shiga, Japan. That passion turned into an undergraduate and master's degree in Japanese History and Japan Studies, as he made every effort to return. Along the way, he met and fell in love with a Japanese classmate during his master's program. They married and returned to Japan in 2011, where Travis quickly found work recruiting international students at a Japanese university. He has continued to work with international students as a university employee and to deepen his knowledge about the MEXT scholarship and other paths for international students to live in Japan. He lives in Akita with his wife and three children, where he continues to work with exchange students and writes guides to living in Japan as well as epic fantasy.
