Publisher Description:
Despite the abundance of local historians in the second half of the 19th century, all of them described the political history of the country, referring to its military component only in general. The only difficulty was dedicated essay Zotov, 1839, but it was a brief sketch of the military events without a detailed analysis of tactics and strategy, and it was not compiled from original sources, and based on the works of Karamzin, Polevoy, Bulgarin and other historiographers of the period. Golitsyn decided to fill the gap following the example of his own "Universal Military History," the first generalizing work on this topic. Inextricably linking the movement of the military history of the political events, he describes the causes and consequences of the different national campaigns and wars, and instead of a purely theoretical scientific benefits creates a fascinating cognitive performance throughout the Russian military past. In the opinion of the Golitsyn, Russia is a special place in the world as the original, vast and powerful of the Slavic nations, capable of maintaining a balance with other "worlds," mainly German. The book is divided into 5 parts: from the beginning of Russia until John III (862-1462) by John Tr. to Peter I (1462 - 1689) from Peter I to Catherine II (1689 - 1762) by Catherine II to Alexander II (1762 - 1801) of the reign of Alexander II until the 2nd of Paris (1801 - 1815) As we approach the newest time description of military events is becoming more extensive and detailed. Especially carefully described hiking Peter the Great and Suvorov, as the most instructive militarily. The book has lots of maps and illustrations, many battle plans were drawn up on the latest Golitsyn personally surveying his time.
