Publisher Description:
Usually, like her mother, because she is a girl, the girl has no voice, deprived of access to school, inheritance, resources and opportunities. Because sexuality is considered taboo, she cannot talk about it, she cannot dispose of or control her body and decide about it. Discriminated against and abused because of her gender at school and at home, and among older women because of her age. Through violence, she becomes pregnant, expelled from school, rejected by family and society; without support, she is forced to marry or end up on the street; traumatized, she migrates into sex work to survive, bearing the stigma of work that is not socially accepted, nor legally protected, where she is again exposed to the cycle of violence. In order to empower girls and marginalized groups, provide them with space and enable them to raise their voices in decision-making spaces, a youth feminist movement in the DRC proposed a girl-centred approach based on three strategies - Empowerment, Leadership and Early Feminist Activism - which this book presents to you from its fifteen years of experience.
