.-Mat as N spolo, El Mundo

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

The revival of a previously unpublished Hemingway: Ricardo Piglia's last great work.

"The foundations of Hemingway's iceberg theory gathered for the first time, with a masterful prologue by Ricardo Piglia. ...] A fundamental book of unbreakable thematic, stylistic, and even interpretive unity." -Mat as N spolo, El Mundo

Hemingway published In Our Time, his first book of short stories, in 1925. He was 26 years old and already wrote like a veteran. This first Spanish-language edition, so long overdue, respects the original order of a short story compilation that, because of its organic nature and internal consistency, can also be read as a fragmented novel. War and alcohol, fishing and bulls, Nick Adams' tormented solitude, they are all here, orbiting around that emotional nucleus that Hemingway never names but which gives his tales such weight.

Ricardo Piglia was 18 years old when he found a used copy of In Our Time in a bookstore in Mar del Plata. He read the whole thing that same afternoon. His prologue to this edition (which he wrote shortly before his death) invites faithful readers of Hemingway to participate in an illuminating dialogue and is at the same time a superb introduction for those lucky few who are about to dive in for the first time.
