Annotation: The Marte design studio creates graphics for editorial, packaging and fashion design, but it isn't as straight-laced as that sounds. Principal Marco Klefisch is a co-founder of the RebelInk group, which turns improvisational graffiti-writing into live performances; he has collaborated with EMI, Sony, Virgin and Diesel. His colleague Giorgio DiSalvo shows his work in Milan galleries, and is co-founder of the clothing brand Vanguard. DiSalvo's images have appeared on merchandise from Stussy, King Kong and Letal e Yuter. Third partner, Riccardo Trotta, has been Art Director for his own group and for brands including Prada and Vodafone. True to its independent roots, Marte creates unusual, eye-catching work drawing on influences including the California psychedelia of Rick Griffin and Victor Moscoso, and the Japanese poster art of Tadanori Yoko and Kiyoshi Awazu. In 2006-2007 alone, Marte has collaborated with Vice, Stussy, the Milan Triennial, Nike, Diesel, Damiani, Converse, Warner Music, EMI and Ready Made.

Publisher Description:
Marted Marted explores the mystical and kaleidoscopic works of Studio Marte in their exceptional contribution to Drago's 36 chambers series. The ingredients of Marted are the rich elements that have continuously distinguished the collective's work: American psychedelia and the Japanese art of the 70s. The monochrome pages of the 36 chambers series are filled with dark and gloomy atmospheres inspired by the past, with a sensibility always nurtured by new creative inputs. Together with Marco Klefish, Giorgio Di Slavo and Riccardo Trotta, the Milan based Marte studio specialises in graphic design and is particularly focused on editorial projects, packaging and fashion design. Their art is inspired by numerous fascinating works, from the psychedelia of Rick Griffin and Victor Moscoso to the Japanese poster art of Tadanori Yoko and Kiyoshi Awazu. What results is a stunning fusion that defines the unique aesthetic of this independent studio.
