Publisher Description:

Smuggins stands every day ready and waiting in the King's courtroom in the King's castle. It's the center of all the kingdom, perched high in its city, rising from the plains around it. The King's people love him, but there are rumors of unrest at the edges of kingdom--North, East, West, and South. Some do not trust the King's goodness. As a messenger for the King, Smuggins has one of the most prestigious positions in all the land.

Through Smuggins' service to the King he learns every day more about the King's character and his own. In his adventures, Smuggins will learn of battles and politics, friendships and loyalty. He will fight in battles and carry invitations to the King's courtroom. But even in all of this, Smuggins knows one thing: as a King's Messenger, his most important task is to make the King's goodness known throughout the land.

Contributor Bio(s): Givens, Carolyn Clare: - Carolyn Clare Givens is a displaced Northerner exploring the foreign ways of the South. She spends her time working in communications and meeting new characters in her imagination who bother her until she can find a world for them to live in and story for them to tell. She works with Story Warren, allies in imagination for families (www.storywarren.com), and with ArtsCharlotte, which seeks to nourish the soul of the city through the arts (www.artscharlotte.org). Carolyn lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, in a house full of books with her two cats, Lord Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane. Website: carolyncgivens.com Facebook: Carolyn Clare Givens Twitter: @carolyncgivensHesselman, Stephen: - Technical writer by day, illustrator by night, Stephen Hesselman enjoys drawing comic books, comic strips, graphic novels, and his friends' stories (especially this one!), sermons, the occasional recipe, and random ideas. He's been illustrating with pen and ink since junior high and has plans to continue doing so until he is at least 97, possibly longer if things don't work out with the circus. He likes collecting books, comics, and music, and though he certainly has too many for his own good, he will nevertheless persist in collecting until he can laugh maniacally and swim in it like a duck in a money bin. He also enjoys spending time in the outdoors (particularly the nature-y part) with his family. Chocolate is a favorite pastime as well. Stephen lives with his wife, Wendy, and three kids near Nashville, Tennessee, because of Country and Western music.
